This site has been designed to provide you with the opportunity to access information about my campaign for State Representative of Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket District. Most importantly, this site has been designed to allow you to have a voice in this election process. If you wish, you can sign up to volunteer and help me with events that we are planning now through Election Day on November 4th, 2008. A blog has been incorporated into this site, so that I can hear directly from you. I plan on posting messages and I look forward to reading your comments in order to better understand the issues that are most important to you. I am often asked why I decided to run for State Representative. I believe I have the leadership skills, heart, and dedication required to best represent our communities and advocate for our citizens. Having been a resident on Martha’s Vineyard for the majority of my life, I know how special our communities are and believe it is my time to give back. I have had an interest in public service for many years now, most recently culminating with my military service in the United States Coast Guard.
After completing my active duty service in 2007, I immediately began searching for opportunities to return home and make a positive difference. Following a careful evaluation of a number of opportunities, it became apparent that pursuing public office would allow me to engage in the most important local issues. When I tell people of my aspirations, they often ask, “Aren’t you too young?” or, “Why don’t you consider an easier path to gain experience?” My response to them has been simple, yet respectful. My aspirations are based upon the definition of leadership being the ability to reconcile opportunity and competency. Today, in our communities, we are presented with plentiful opportunities to create positive change. I believe that I have the competencies required to lead these efforts and act on these opportunities.
I had the great joy of growing up playing sports on the Cape. I enjoyed the rewarding opportunity to train with my shipmates at Coast Guard Station Brant Point on Nantucket. I currently have the honor of serving as a U.S. Coast Guard reservist at Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole, MA. I know our communities and I look forward to visiting every neighborhood over the months ahead in an effort to earn the privilege of serving you. During these travels throughout our communities, if you see me in a store, in a local meeting, or jogging around town, please don’t hesitate to say hello and share your thoughts with me on how I can best represent you during this campaign.
